ACIDO Rocket Nominee

Horizon.

The long-haul trucking industry is a crucial part of the global economy, providing essential goods to consumers in every country and locale around the world. Moving cargo and goods by truck requires driver operators to spend days or weeks on the road at a time.

A lack of ergonomic innovation coupled with the repetitive nature of the job, lack of proper amenities and social isolation puts drivers at heightened risk of cardiometabolic diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, as well as anxiety and depression.

How might we improve the livability and working conditions for long-haul truck drivers?

HORIZON is an enhanced sleeper semi-truck that utilizes electric vehicle technology to expand the interior, and make a more livable space for long-haul truck drivers.

The cockpit has been designed to give the driver more ergonomic support for when they are driving, planning routes and doing paperwork.

Optional standing position with hand controls prevents the musculoskeletal health risks of prolonged sitting.

Passengers seat work station and onboard computer provides a space for route planning and paperwork.

Behind the cockpit there is the living quarters that provides the driver with the amenities needed to live a healthy/active lifestyle while on the road.

Kitchenette for food storage and preparation. Provides the means to make healthier meals.

Bunk bed folds against wall when not in use to create more floor space.

Onboard washroom allows drivers to not rely on truck stop facilities which may be closed when they arrive.

Treadmill in the floor used for light exercise.
